Escaped lion recaptured in Qld
A lion that escaped from a far north Queensland zoo today has been recaptured.
The 130 kilogram male lion called Goldie escaped from his cage in the Mareeba Wildlife Animal Wildlife Park this afternoon.
About 60 of the park's staff were ordered to lock themselves indoors when the feline escaped through a hole accidentally cut by a worker using a steel-bladed whipper snipper.
Zoo keeper Tim Husband managed to round up the animal and force it back into its cage.
"We unfortunately had someone with a brush-cutter working around the area and he got too close and cut through the fence," he said.
"Goldie decided to go for a walk. He's a friendly lion, he was hand raised, so yeah, he just pushed through the fence and went for a walk," he said.
The Department of Natural Resources is investigating the escape.
